Back to Stitching brings modern mobile sewing machine cleaning and repair to neighborhoods across Vancouver, Washington, but our story starts much closer to home. Jeff Barber grew up with a knack for fixing just about anything, guided by a philosophy of repairing rather than replacing. After an unexpected disability pressed pause on his pest control career, Jeff saw an even bigger problem in the sewing community: folks were waiting far too long to have machines tuned up or fixed, and the hassle of hauling a heavy machine across town was slowing down creativity.
Instead of watching vintage machines gather dust or see treasured tools headed for landfill, Jeff put his fix-it know-how to new use by serving quilters, hobbyists, and pros alike - right at their doorsteps. He set out to sharpen his skills by training with the Sewing Doc Academy, blending hands-on family experience with certified expertise. The heart behind Back to Stitching is about more than machines; it's about keeping the craft going strong and helping neighbors sew with the same sturdy classics our grandparents used.
Every service call is a chance to keep those stories and stitches alive, while building new connections and supporting a community that cares for one another. The journey continues with each visit - and your machine's next chapter starts with us.

Jeff Barber knows what it means to keep things running, whether on the family farm, in a workshop, or with a favorite vintage sewing machine. Decades of fixing for friends and family gave him deep hands-on experience, and after a change in careers, he found his calling supporting the Vancouver sewing community. Jeff's belief in 'fix it, not replace it' powers every house call, and his ongoing certification with the Sewing Doc Academy reflects his commitment to getting your machine singing again - no matter its age or make. Beyond repairs, Jeff's journey is shaped by his sister's experience with spina bifida and his family's battles with breast cancer, inspiring donations to related organizations. He strongly believes a repaired sewing machine connects generations and crafts people together, and that real quality is about caring for both machines and the people who rely on them. Every visit is a small way to give back and keep creativity alive in the neighborhood.
